Compass Global Logistics Ltd may be all about global transporting solutions, but Canterbury is where its heart is. The global logistics company is fully owned in Christchurch by Cantabrians. It has its head office in Christchurch and it was Compass Global's firm links to Canterbury that made it want to come on board as a sponsor of Canterbury Rugby. Company director Tony Newell says it was the opportunity to join with a group of like-minded Canterbury companies that really appealed.
"We saw that, not only is Canterbury Rugby a successful brand that we'd be proud to be associated with, the other sponsors of Canterbury Rugby are also very successful and professional businesses that clearly share our commitment to this region.
Like other Canterbury businesses, I think the earthquakes down here only served to strengthen our resolve to stand by this community and help it to grow and get back on its feet. Joining with other local businesses to support the local rugby team is an appropriate way to do that in a rugby-mad province like ours," Tony Newell said.
Prior to the earthquakes, Compass Global was located beside the old AMI Stadium, in a warehouse about four times the size of what they are currently working out of.
"So we kind of feel an affinity with the new temporary stadium. Like us, Canterbury Rugby has had to move out of its more spacious working space and find a temporary solutions. But we're all trucking along and continuing to make things work despite the challenges," Tony said.
In fact, business is going very well for Compass Global. It has been going since 1986 and continues to be one of the few independently owned global logistics companies in New Zealand.
Compass Global is a foundation member of the Inspire Foundation which was established by a group of Canterbury business people committed to the promotion of the Canterbury region and it’s young people.
